Today The Pill Club announces new CEO Liz Meyerdirk. Meyerdirk was a founding member of Uber Eats, where she spent nearly six years leading strategy and global business development. Prior to her time at Uber, she has been involved with a number of marketplace and healthcare technology businesses. She started her career in investment banking and venture capital investing. We're excited for you to get to know her.
It's a real privilege to join The Pill Club at an inflection point for the company and to lead this business into the future by continuing to build world-class products that ensure accessible women's health care for everyone—all while making this company one of the best places to work. In addition to my coming on board, I'm thrilled to introduce Dave Hsu as Chief Financial Officer and Jeremy Downs as Senior Vice President of Growth. Dave joins us from Honey, where he led the company's acquisition process for the $4 billion sale to PayPal, and Jeremy joins us from Uber Eats, where he spent the last five years leading the team responsible for driving growth across Eats' largest global partnerships.
A mentor once told me to look for opportunities where you can have an impact at a company that's making a difference. After spending time with our founder Nick and the board over the last six months, I knew without a doubt that this community was the place for me to do just that. I look forward to his staying on as President and Executive Chairman of the board as we build on our vision to be a trusted healthcare partner for women and increase access to care through technology.
Over the past six years, The Pill Club has changed the way hundreds of thousands of women across the country access contraception. Our revenue has grown at an annual rate of nearly 100% over the past two years. And last year, we hit several months of profitability and reached an annual run rate of $100 million in revenue for the first time.
Ensuring that access to health care continues to be a viable option for women around the country remains our top priority—and that's never been more important than in a global pandemic. Launching synchronous telemedicine visits in several states allows us to serve thousands of women in places where video chats between patients and providers are a requirement for telemedicine companies to operate. At the same time, this technology unlocks the potential to expand our offerings and grow with our members as their needs evolve beyond contraceptive care.
While we already deliver birth control nationwide, we've been actively working to expand into new states where we can also prescribe it. We now prescribe in 44 states and D.C. and expect to be able to prescribe in all 50 states by the end of the first quarter, an exciting milestone that would make us the first in this category to do so.
Women's health care has never been more tested than right now. COVID-19 has upended access to care; dozens of states have—and continue—to try and limit women's choice; and last year, the Supreme Court voted to uphold the rollback of the ACA contraceptive mandate decision, a stunning move that could end up impacting as many as 126,000 women who previously received covered contraception through employer-based health insurance.
These events have shown that reliable, safe, and affordable access to women's health and birth control is just one more vulnerability in our health care system. Through all these changes, we were able to ensure that our patients had uninterrupted access to birth control and emergency contraception—even during some of the most challenging points of the pandemic. Along the way, we've never lost sight of our vision for managed care and continued to make broad coverage—both private insurance and Medicaid—available to our patients, nearly 20% of which are Medicaid.
We need sustained, long-term access to women's health care, not just a bridge while the pandemic persists; and we need coverage for essential health services like birth control and prenatal care, regardless of whether or not you're insured. Reproductive care has and continues to be an essential part of our business, but there are countless opportunities to serve women in all of their life stages from puberty to menopause.
I believe that we're well-positioned for the opportunities in front of us, and I'm thrilled to partner with Nick and the team to continue transforming the standard of health care for women across the country.
